Allegations of rape in Durham, North Carolina by a Black woman against players from Duke University‘s lacrosse team have the city on edge.

The woman, an exotic entertainer, alleges that she was gang-raped amidst a flurry of racial slurs by White members of the lacrosse team. Imagine this happening to a White stripper at Morehouse.

The title of my book, Fear of a Black Pussy, has sexual and racial connotations. In doing research for the title, I wanted to play off the “Fear of a Black Planet” thing, but do so in a way to indicate what the book is about. Basically, I looked up combination of keywords containing the word “pussy” on Overture, and what I found at the time was, “Black pussy” is the most looked up keyword or key phrase in this matter, containing the word “pussy”.

This basically means that more people look up the phrase “Black Pussy” than any other “pussy” word combination like “Asian pussy”, “White pussy”, etc. And that fact is very interesting considering the “race” of most American internet users.

Yes, Black folks rape, obviously, but the implications of this Durham crime considering the history of rape of Black women by White men is terribly disturbing. I often call BET WET, because I believe many of the perverse images of Black women and men displayed on BET without a balance to these images (as was present in BET’s early years) are primarily meant to satisfy the salacious needs of BET’s growing White audience.
