Black Journalist Unjustly Harassed, Assaulted and Charged By Las Vegas Cops

Las Vegas based journalist Anthony Springer Jr. was harassed, assaulted and unjustly charged with “trespassing” at the “Impeach the Sheriff” Hip Hop concert on June 26 of this year after an officer ”supposedly” heard that there was a “suspect with an ‘L’ shaped object entering the theatre” in which the concert was being held.

This incident happened almost four months ago, but the situation between “law enforcement” and the Hip Hop community in Las Vegas is one of mounting tension.

Here is a press release about the incident:

Immediate Release

Local Journalist Harassed, Assaulted by Vegas Park Police

On June 26, 2006, Anthony Springer Jr., journalist and local radio personality
was harassed and attacked by members of the Clark County Park Police during the “Impeach the Sheriff” Hip Hop concert.

Springer, 22, attended the event on behalf of music web site Hiphopdx.com. He also planned to highlight the event on his Saturday afternoon radio show, The Saturday Kickback on Power 88.

After taking several pictures outside, Springer, who had already been searched, re-entered the entrance to the park and was confronted by Sgt. Rick Binyons.

Springer was asked to reveal the contents under his shirt and after complying
with the request, was rushed by several officers, hand cuffed and ticketed for
trespassing.

Springer pleaded not guilty to charges of trespassing and stands trial this
Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Henderson Justice Court.

The trial begins at 9:30 a.m.

Regardless of the outcome, Springer, who has no prior criminal history, hopes that others will begin to stand up to police when they feel they’ve been wronged.

“A lot of people end up taking a plea deal because they’re scared or don’t have time to fight a case,” he says of our justice system. “Nothing will change if nobody stands up, so that’s what I’m doing, standing up.”

The charges have since been dropped against Springer, but the same over zealous police officers are still on the Las Vegas police force, so what’s the possibility of tax paying citizens in Las Vegas being able to come together for a peaceful concert of this nature in the future, without such a heavy police presence?

And what’s going on in LV that they need to have an “Impeach the Sheriff” concert in the first place?

And oh…the “L” shaped object? I’m no genius, but let’s see…he was taking pictures, so…maybe…it was a camera!

All Black men with cameras be on alert!

From the side at a certain angle from very far away in the right lighting during the proper moon phases cameras can look like gats in the hands of a Black man which can then lead to you being deaded by an overzealous racist cop. You have been warned.
