Slavery Is Everywhere; So Is It Time for Blacks to “Disown” It? [+ Video on European Sex Slaves]

You hear it all the time: American blacks hate white people, because we have the right to.

After all they enslaved us, beat us, raped us, dehumanized us, etc. for hundreds of years, so the hate is justified and there’s not a damn thing any white person can do about it!

And so it goes…

Over a 100 years after the official end of American slavery, most black Americans are still so attached to the subject, it’s as if we “own” the very concept of being enslaved — like we’re the only race of people who’ve ever been bought and sold.

It’s even to the point that, when most African-Americans even think of the word “slave”, we automatically picture a black person in our minds, as if black person = slave.

But I think perhaps its time for black people to get over it. Yes, I said it. Get.Over.It.

Not forget about slavery, but just not concentrate on it so much as something that only happens to black people.

Because while we’re running around blaming white people for every ill that’s ever happened to us, we are wasting a lot of precious time not contributing to the ending of this most heinous institution.

Slavery still exist today in many parts of the world. And yes, even right here, today, in the United States of America!

I just watched an hour long Frontline documentary about sex slavery in Europe that really helped expand my view of how foul and wide-reaching slavery really is, and I encourage you to watch it too.

Watching it helped me, as a black person, “disown” slavery for lack of a better word, in that it taught me that mourning for what my ancestors went through, while it does give me a feeling of connection to modern day slaves, does not necessarily help me contribute today to the ending of slavery all over the world.

It’s time for black people to stop framing our whole existence in the context of being the descendants of slaves, because there are soooooo many people in this world who have it much worse than any black person in this country will EVER have it. And watching this documentary will help you see that.

As a side note, I find it interesting that most of the evil and destruction in the world is caused by the wants of men. If men didn’t want to stick their dicks into everything moving from 18 month old babies to 100 year old women and everything in between, there would be no need for sex slavery, because in that business, like in most other businesses, demand drives supply.

But as I said that’s just a side note and I’ll be sure to do a full post at a later date discussing how men, their evil appendages, their machismo and their weak bitch-ass female sidekicks are on the verge of destroying the world.

Anyway, the film is only an hour. Take some time and open your eyes to how bad some ofter people have it, then get off your ass and do something, even if you don’t do anything but share this on Facebook using one of my share links below, because just by doing that you will help enlighten others about this very serious issue. Check out the film below:

Well, Sister Cherryl,

Your analysis is terribly lacking in that you neglect to discuss the horrors of the enslavement of the Africans which don’t shine through when you toss up such minimizing as “cotton picking” – and “so they raped us.”

You neglect in your analysis to discuss the continuing cuts and bruises, the devastation, the ravaging and the pillaging that never ceased from “that official date” until today. You almost seem to deliberately seek to avoid discussion of the aftermath of slavery.

You either forget or don’t know that the enslavement of African people continued on far beyond the so called proclamation.

You don’t mention that the pillaging of Africans and their belongings, their community building, the burning down of Black schools and churches and the lynchings well into the 1900′s.

You don’t mention Rosewood or Greenwood.

In her infinite wisdom, Angela Davis has said “We think simplistically about slavery, and therefore because we think simplistically about it, we think it was abolished.”

I urge you to do the study that will open the floodgates of knowledge about the continuing genocide conduct perpetrated against Black people in the last century.

I offer this Exhibit A, although there are many others in your beginning journey for a fuller richer comprehension of the history of Africans in America.

Slavery by another name.

peace sister terry! thank you so much for stopping by.

i see from your comment that you are not a regular reader of this blog.

otherwise you would understand that i am definitely not a person who “deliberately seek(s) to avoid discussion of the aftermath of slavery.”

in fact, slavery and and the on-going mis-treatment of africans globally is one of the main topics of this blog.

and currently, i am writing a book which i have been working on for five years about the global mistreatment of black women, historically and currently, not just in the united states, but all over the world.

so yes, in this brief blog post, i did neglect to mention a lot of the deeper issues surrounding the enslavement of africans and the continuing after-effects, primarily because i am a writer off-line as well and currently writing my book is taking the majority of my time.

i just came across the documentary about european sex slavery the other day as i said in the post, and i felt it important to make others aware of the fact that yes, even though our people endured the worst kind of slavery, and are still suffering in the wake of slavery, maybe we should look beyond that once in a while so we can have our eyes open about the slavery that still goes on today.

many, many people are not aware that slavery STILL exists, and no matter how much we know individually or as a group about the african experience, i maintain that it is still important for us to be aware of the fact that the scourge of slavery still exists all around us.

while i appreciate you wanting to educate me on the plight of our people…in my case i don’t believe it’s necessary…

and the proof of how much i “forget or don’t know that the enslavement of African people continued on far beyond the so called proclamation” is in my writing. check out these posts when you get a sec:

and on and on and on…most of the posts i have written on this blog in the past four years are probably race related.

so yes, while it may seem to the casual or new reader of this blog that i may have “neglected” to delve deeper into the ins and outs of slavery in this post…all of my regular readers know what time it is when it comes to this blog, and hopefully i, like you, have helped to educate others on our continuing plight, online and off.

peace.

You know… i have to say at least black people in this country have had the ability to ‘re-group’ or continue as a people. The Native Americans are all but wiped out. As an anti racist activist and teacher i have to say, a lot of the ‘black folk’ i meet seem to feel because of slavery their actions now have a ‘pass’ or should be ‘overlooked.’ I’m a Native American and feel all poor people should come together and see the real fight… poor vs rich. As long as people believe in their colors (this is exactly what the system wants you to think because white Micheal fighting black Johnny makes the system/prison industrial complex money) we will all remain mentally enslaved. Black people will never make it to the promise land by themselves, it’s going to take all people to create the revolution we are all looking for. And in the words of Sam Greenlee… “There was no conquer and divide, they conquered the divided!’
