Two days ago I received an email inviting me to RSVP for a secret same day Jay Electronica show. The email said “Please RSV by 1 PM Today!”.
Only problem is I didn’t wake up until 1:30 that day. Oops. That’s a lesson for you kiddies. On the days you think you’ve gotten enough work done during the other days of the week to take a good long rest during one of those days, that’s the day something big is gonna happen. Trust.
I couldn’t have attended the same day show anyway, seeing the show was at Santos on Lafayette Street and I live too far away from that club. About 465 miles too far, seeing as I live in North Carolina, but hey it’s still a good lesson because one day a show might pop up in my area and I don’t want to be caught snoozing when it happens.
Lucky for me Miss Info was in the house and shot some footage of the show. Check out the clips. Continue reading...

a young geisha or maiko
If you’ve been following my Twitter as of late, you’ll know that I’ve been working on a manga.
Manga is simply a Japanese comic. Some people confuse the word manga with anime, but they are different in the fact that manga is on paper and anime, as the name suggests, is animated.
The fantastic tale behind the first manga to be turned into an anime series, Astroboy, is currently making the rounds in the US.
In doing some research for my manga I am researching different aspects of Japanese culture like geisha, and in my research I’ve seen innumerable photos and videos of geisha, or more properly if you’re in Tokyo, geiko.
I’ve come to appreciate several aspects of geisha culture, and admire the beauty and grace of several of the women I’ve seen perform, but yesterday as I was doing my research I found who I believe may be my very favorite geisha of all so far: Toshiteru! Continue reading...

Too too tuff. From the and only Sister Carol.
I think when Sister Carol says “dreadlocks who use coke” she is speaking of musicians like Gregory Isaacs, RIP, who was famous for his coke habit.
Other reggae songs that have praised marijuana while speaking out against cocaine use include Yellowman and sister Nancy’s “Cocaine”. Unfortunately a lot of Ras…even Bob Marley according to my own sources who were close to him…started using cocaine during the seventies.
That’s bad bad stuff. Legalize the herb!

If there’s anything I hate it has to be getting a recipe from a website, or from someone, and it comes out a big pile of mess that has to be thrown away. Who has time or money to waste food? I certainly don’t. Writers these days are still making 1960s wages. So when I need a recipe that’s sure to please everyone in my household, I turn to my favorite recipe website, Recipe Zaar. Sounds like a Russian cooking show parody, I know. But they have the very best recipes because it’s a community driven website for chefs and lay cooks alike to upload and rate each other’s recipes.
Each recipe can also be commented on by other members, and members can upload photos of how your recipe turned out for them and attach these photos to your recipe. Searching for recipes is easy, and so is organizing your search results by rank so you can see all the five star recipes first. I love it! Tonight I made this which is super easy and can easily be made with chicken too. And next time I buy fresh corn on the cob I’m going to try this. Continue reading...

feelin’ like an octopus. but i’m more like a cuttlefish.
1. a webmaster. though for the last five years or so i’ve been doing webmastery stuff like learning html, then xml just to have a decent looking place to lay my writings. i’m funny like that. i’m a very visual person so my blog templates are important to me. not having resources to hire a professional, i tend to just use and tweak pre-made (free) templates. Speaking of here’s a list of
125 Free and Beautiful Blogger Templates.
2. a graphic artist. but again, in lieu of someone who actually knows what they’re doing i’m designing photo headers and junk. so if you wonder my my pages look ok but a little…off…somehow, well blame me. but they’re good enough. can’t spend all my time on my blog design cuz…you know i have to write content too!
3. an internet marketing expert. that’s shitty right about now cuz i just realized that i have no links or a blogroll anymore on this blog. oops. have to fix that right away. i also just realized that i have no meta tags in my blog header. and don’t even ask me what the hell is an “SEO” or what it does.
4. an ad/affiliate wizard. i’m still trying to figure out how to add adsense to more parts of my blog, and which affiliate program to sign up for since amazon
kicked all nc-illians to the curb. ugh.
5. a
business manager. but yet, i am getting ready to write a five year business plan for this blog.
i am a writer. sometimes. wish i could write more, but the business of writing and blogging is taking up all my writing time! ugh.

So why don’t I feel excited? I’ve heard the single “This is It” from the album, but with little promotion or knowledge of what else is on the album…I dunno…maybe I’m just used to albums being pushed by super press machines. Maybe it’s a good album. I should give it a chance. I’m confused as to whether it is the actual soundtrack to the movie though. Glenn Gamboa confusingly but eloquently illustrates that its basically like a greatest hits piece, but he calls it the soundtrack in the title of the post. And it’s being called the soundtrack on the official MJ website.
But…like when was the last time Mike put out a great album? He basically built a career off of childhood fame, spectacular dancing skills and two and a half, maybe three great albums and some smash singles like the We Are the World thing. I should buy it just because I was a huge Michael Jackson fan. And still am. Even though I can’t help but wonder how many of these albums I’m gonna be seeing in the dollar bin in the upcoming months. Lol. Dollar bins. I’t’s funny when you see your own band’s product in there like a couple of my friends have. I laugh my ass off about it when that happens. Continue reading...
