CNN president Jon Klein thinks giving former Democratic New York attorney general/governor/trick Eliot Spitzer his own show–The Parker Spitzer Show–is a good idea.
I don’t.
Here’s three reasons why I disagree and am personally boycotting the show:
1. When I see Spitzer’s face, this is what immediately comes to mind:
Any man like Spitzer who consorts, or has consorted with whores is a whoremonger, and I’m sure there are dozens, if not hundreds of such men in the public eye.
In fact, if the black books of any of these um…*cough!*…”high-class” (all the ladies with caviar on ya coochies throw ya hands up!) prostitution services were made public today, I’d be willing to bet at least 30% of the married men in government and media would come home to some very angry wives tomorrow–if they could come home at all!
But since Spitzer got caught, his business is out there and knowing what I know about him I just cannot support anything he does in the public arena. Continue reading...

Rhymesayers crew heavy Eyedea, aka Mike Larson, was found dead early Sunday. He was 28. A lot of people might remember Eyedea’s early years as an underground battle emcee who took out several foes in battles like 2000′s “Blaze Battle” where he squared off with emcees until the last round…I can’t remember exactly right now but I watched that battle and I believe he won but in a somewhat controversial decision because of his race and unorthodox style.
Eyedea was also known as part of the group Eyedea & Abilities…I don’t think Abilities has released a statement yet.
His mother just announced the news via the Mike Larson (Eyedea) Memorial Facebook page last night around 7 pm.
Brooklyn Vegan has a great tribute up for Larson, with some links to songs and videos for those not familiar with his work. RIP Eyedea. You will be missed!

This story is happening now:
A man and a woman–let’s call them Steven and Lisa–are making love. A 24-year-old mother of two children from two previous relationships, Lisa feels lucky to have found Steven, 28, who says he completely adores her–children, stretch marks and all. He’s not perfect, but the tall hunk with curly hair she met at a party at her girl’s house a month ago is stroking her so good, the fact that he’s unemployed and has two kids from two prior relationships of his own fades from her mind with every thrust.
The sex is so hot and passionate, it doesn’t take long for Lisa to climax. Again. Then again. And so does Steven.
This…is perfect… she thinks, lulled into a feeling of comfort in the afterglow of their union. As Steven holds her in his arms, she believes she’s falling in love and wonders if, as in previous relationships, what she has with him might be too good to be true.
Unfortunately for Lisa, it is. Continue reading...

I’ve been listening to a lot of Pointer Sister’s songs lately, and I think I enjoy their songs more today than when they first came out.
The Pointer Sisters are PKs from the Bay who started out as a duet, then became a quartet before finally becoming the trio most fans know today.

the Pointer Sisters lineup that produced their self-titled first album in 1973
Below is a rare live video of the Pointer Sisters (with the original four sister lineup) performing the funktastic “Yes, We Can Can,” the first cut off their 1973 debut album The Pointer Sisters.
“Yes, We Can Can,” originally recorded by Lee Dorsey in 1970, has been sampled by De La Soul for “Breakadawn” from 1993′s Buhloone Mindstate, for MC Lyte and Positive K’s “I’m Not Having That“, Cash Money & Marvelous’ “Find an Ugly Woman” and several other songs, though in my opinion this song smashes the songs that sampled it.
If it were up to me this tune would have been Barack Obama‘s presidential campaign theme song. Continue reading...

I won’t be posting much this month, as I’m finishing a proposal for a book I’ve been working on for…seems like forever.
But I am working on a couple of special features for this blog: one, a piece for the No Marriage, No Womb web protest against out of wedlock births in the African-American community that will be posted on this blog on September 22nd, and the other, a long piece about female emcees.
Today I just want to call attention to something I saw in doing some research for my book the other day: a list of horribly disgusting and sexist advertisements.

Ad for Mr. Leggs slacks says, "Though she was a tiger lady, our hero didn't have to fire one shot to floor her. After one look at his Mr. Leggs slacks, she was ready to have him walk all over her...If you'd like your own doll to doll carpeting, hunt up a pair of these he-man slacks...
